Day1: Wet Felt Beads and Bags

During the class, you will be introduced to the basics of wet felting, including selected wool fibers, creating a layout, and wetting and rolling the fibers to create felted beads. You will also learn how to incorporate designs and patterns, and shape the beads into various sizes. You will learn how to create a resist, which is a template used to create a hollow shape in the felt, and how to use this resist to create a seamless pouch. You will also learn how to add a button closure. Throughout the class, you will have the opportunity to experiment with color and texture, creating unique and personalized pieces. By the end of the class, you will have a set of beautiful beads and a functional felted pouch to take home and enjoy.

Day2: Weave a Mini Basket

We will be creating a small rattan basket project! In this class, you will learn how to weave a basket using rattan, a natural material made from the stems of a climbing vine. Brittany will guide you through the steps of weaving, starting with setting up the base of a basket and learning plain weave, the most common basket weaving pattern. This is a fun and engaging weaving class and take home a beautiful rattan basket that you can use as a trinket basket, pencil holder, a gift, to hold a potted plant, and many other fun uses.

Day3: Printing Bandanas with Custom Stamps

The last project in the kids' camp will be printed bandanas. Each student will have the opportunity to create their own print design. We will be carving the design into a stamping material called linoleum and then using this stamp to print on the fabric bandanas. We will provide white bandanas as a canvas for each student's unique print design. Once the design is created and carved we will begin printing using fabric paints. While printing we will explore color theory by mixing primary colors to create a rainbow of options. The bandanas will be printed with waterproof, wash-proof paint so they can be laundered. Each student will go away with their own printed bandana and unique stamp.
